Meet the agent Jason Sobe from RED NY
29 May, 2012
Hello, thank you for having me. My name is Jason Sobe and I hail from Cleveland, Ohio.
I was born in Boulder, Colorado and moved to Ohio when I was very young. I attended Ohio University where I majored in Economics and minored in History. I am a huge hometown sports fan so regardless of how they play I am a diehard Cleveland Browns, Indians and Cavs fan.
I have been living in New York for the almost two years now. I lived in Williamsburg and now I live in Ft Greene in Brooklyn.
My heritage is German/Polish from my father and Mexican/Native American from my mother. I am a HUGE foodie. I can go all day sampling various foods from all over the city. There’s too many options.
When I first came to the city I moved here to work in the field of my major. It was summer and I wasn’t really feeling the whole suit thing in the sticky summer here in NYC. An agency was hiring an assistant so checked it out and ended up taking it. I then worked my way up from there and now I am at RED.
The glamorous fashion world and the market for models, agents and agencies
The fashion world can be very glamorous. Models, designers, celebrities, athletes, etc. attend events, parties, and so on. It seems everyone is trying to out dress each other. It makes everyday life very entertaining and a lot less like “everyday life.”
The market is ever changing and models, agents and agencies will need to adapt it to survive. There are very exciting things going on in this new age and I am excited to see these changes.
In and Out on fashion trends
Personally, I see a lot of trends coming in and out. I tend to have my own personal style that I take from various styles and make it my own. So, what’s “in” and what’s “out” is irrelevant to me. Although, I do like the whole Navajo print on clothing thing going on.
The key of the success, upside and downside of a modeling career
Communication is key. I can say it over and over again and people will still not get it.
A modeling career involves travelling a ton and being away from loved ones. You may be around many unfamiliar people, but you learn new cultures, get to see some amazing cities, and work along some great people. It can be very rewarding.
Models that can sell themselves is what usually makes someone very successful. As an agent, we can point a model in the right direction, but ultimately it is up to them to seal the deal.
His tips for the aspiring models
Take criticism constructively and use it to better yourself.
An unforgettable moment
Meeting Bill Murray at a midtown bar
Places he goes for fun
Central Park, sporting events, concerts, clubs, and then anywhere that gets me out of the concrete jungle.
“So be it.” It goes with my last name and is a little less derogatory than what I would normally use.
I just wanted to thank you again for taking the time to interview me. I look forward to seeing some great models up on your site and some my way soon
